The Story of Poo Pourri
Poo Pourri is a bit of a new phenomenon and at first I didn’t believe it was a thing. After coming across the spray at a friends house, I was surprised to find out that Poo Pourri is made from natural ingredients and essential oils.
Suzzy, the creator of the original Poo Pourri, came up with the product when she realized there was a lack of natural bathroom odor solutions. She combined her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for essential oils to create Poo-Pourri—the first natural bathroom spray for #2.
Here is the story of how Poo Pourri got its start:
I don’t like to use aerosol sprays in the house and came across quite a few diy toilet spray recipes on Pinterest and was determined to also create my own spray.
What You Need to Make Poo Pourri
- A 2-4 oz glass or plastic spray bottle
- Your choice of essential oils (I prefer lemon and thyme)
- Rubbing alcohol or witch hazel
- Optional: A sticker or label for your bottle
DIY Poo Pourri Instructions
I’m using a 4oz spray bottle, if you’re using a different sized bottle be sure to adjust measurements accordingly.
Step 1: Combine 12-15 drops of essential oil into your spray bottle. I used 8 drops of lemon oil and 6 drops of thyme. This can be customized for whatever essential oil combinations are your favorite. Some of my other favorite essential oil combos are:
- Cedarwood and citrus
- Peppermint and eucalyptus
- Lavender and Vanilla
Step 2: Add 2 tbsp of witch hazel (you can also use rubbing alcohol). This will help the essential oils mix better.
Step 3: Shake up the bottle to combine the essential oils and rubbing alcohol.
Step 4: Fill the rest of your spray bottle with water and shake for about a minute.
Step 5 (Optional): Create a label with instructions on how to use for guests. People who aren’t familiar with Poo Pourri may not know to use the spray. Here are the instructions on my bottle:
- Shake well
- Spray twice in the bowl before you g0!
If you don’t want to create a label you can also create and frame a small sign with instructions for your guests. Now, you may be asking yourself, “Why not just use a few drops of essential oils before using the bathroom?” I’ve thought this too, but I find it’s easier for guests to use a spray labeled with some simple instructions.
